About David Kanefsky

Insurance advice from someone who actually understands risk

Independent insurance producer since 2018, U.S. Army veteran, and the son of a 40-year insurance broker. Licensed across multiple states for personal, commercial, life, and travel insurance — and built on the belief that the best advisors are the ones who've actually taken risks themselves.

A career built on service, twice over

David Kanefsky has worked as an independent insurance producer since 2018, licensed across multiple states and helping clients navigate personal, commercial, life, and travel insurance. He's not captive to a single carrier — as an independent, his job is to shop coverage across the market and find the right fit for each client, not push whatever one company happens to be selling that quarter.

Before insurance, David served in the U.S. Army, including as a graduate of the Army Mountain Warfare School, and later served in the Colorado Army National Guard, where he trained and certified as a Type-2 Wildland Firefighter. He holds a degree from the University of Denver's Daniels College of Business. That combination — military risk assessment training and formal business education — shapes how he approaches every policy: understand the real exposure first, then build coverage around it.

Insurance runs in the family

David's father spent nearly 40 years running his own insurance brokerage, Independent Insurance Brokerage Inc., serving clients across the United States with a focus on group and family health, life, and disability coverage. That brokerage is no longer active, but the standard it set — genuine advocacy, not just policy placement — is the one David built his own agency around.

Risk-takers make better risk advisors

Family, travel, and adventure — all with coming home safely — are the throughline of David's life outside the office, and they're not separate from the work. Understanding risk isn't theoretical for him. Big mountains, remote travel, technical terrain: managing that kind of risk well, and knowing when and how to take it on, is exactly the judgment clients are paying for when they hand over their homes, vehicles, businesses, and family's protection. It's easier to help a client weigh a real opportunity against a real risk when you've done the same calculation yourself, more than once.

The work doesn't stop at binding the policy

David has helped clients work through complex claims and coverage disputes, including clients holding international licenses and managing multiple LLCs. He's helped clients wrongly accused of traffic violations get the record corrected and the right party identified. And when it comes time to actually file a claim, he's helped clients come out the other side with the outcome they deserved — not just the one the carrier offered first.

None of that shows up in a quote. It shows up in the reviews from clients who've actually been through it.

Causes worth putting time and money behind

Outside the agency, David has stayed involved in a handful of causes he's genuinely tied to — some through direct giving, one he built himself from the ground up.

Rwandan Orphans Project

Supporting the Imizi Children's Center in Rwanda.

Cafe180 & Step13

Who this is all for

The adventures make for good stories, but the reason for coming home safely from all of them is the same.
